About the artwork
This painting features two male figures in a tight, dark composition, where gestures count as much as absent glances. Boyer develops a precise, silent figurative style, attentive to bodies, contemporary clothing and the tension that circulates between the characters. The scene seems suspended in an ambiguous moment, on the border between care and threat, support and imbalance. Through a subtle treatment of light and a muted palette dominated by browns and blacks, the artist creates an introspective atmosphere that invites the viewer to question notions of relationship, vulnerability and implicit narrative.
Expert opinion
Write About Us is fully in line with Jean Baptiste Boyer's pictorial approach, which explores a contemporary figuration nourished by classical references while remaining deeply rooted in its time. The work stands out for its technical mastery of oil, the quality of its rendering of flesh and textiles, and its subtle psychological construction. Produced in 2020, it testifies to a period of maturity in which the artist refined her narrative language and her relationship with the intimate. The uniqueness of the piece, its ambitious format and its excellent state of preservation make it particularly relevant to a collection attentive to the new French figurative scene.
About the artist
Joanne Boyer, born in Versailles in 1990, is a contemporary French painter who lives and works in the Chartres region. Self-taught and part of a generation that is renewing figurative painting, he combines classical craftsmanship, mineral palettes and uncluttered settings to explore timeless themes rooted in our times. His paintings oscillate between introspection and reflection on the history of art, blending drama and the aesthetics of ruin. In 2024, he was awarded the Prix d'encouragement en peinture by the Académie des Beaux-Arts, an important recognition for emerging artists. His solo exhibitions include Un amour perdu at RX&SLAG in Paris and Les portraits d'âmes at Château de Bussy-Rabutin, and he takes part in group shows including Le jour des peintres at the Musée d'Orsay.
