About the artwork
Against a deep-blue sky with a red sun, a skeleton stands out clearly from the composition. In an expressionist style, Marcio Atherino takes up the theme of the memento mori, in keeping with a long art-historical tradition. The South American artist creates a powerful work of art with a vigorous palette and brushstrokes. The work is a powerful reminder of the artist's tragically deceased sister. By linking his personal story, from which he has never recovered, to the great topoi of art history, Marcio Atherino reminds us that life is only a passage.
