About the artwork

With Rise, Vhils transposes his emblematic sculptural language into a relief work produced by 3D printing in SLS nylon. The composition features a fragmented face that seems to emerge from the material, as if torn from an architectural surface. True to her approach based on revelation through subtraction, the artist plays here with solids and hollows, strata and tears, recreating the aesthetics of erosion and urban memory. The intricate texture of the printed nylon restores a remarkable depth, accentuated by the contrast between the whiteness of the sculpture and the dark background of the glass frame. The work acts as a contemporary bas-relief, suspended between cutting-edge technology and the poetry of altered matter, reflecting Vhils' ongoing research into identity and the traces left by time.

Expert opinion

This piece illustrates Vhils' evolution towards innovative technological processes, while maintaining the coherence of his visual universe. The use of SLS 3D printing enables extreme precision in the rendering of textures and details, while extending his exploration of urban surfaces and collective memory. The contained format, combined with the careful framing, gives the work an intimate yet intense presence. The limited edition of twenty copies reinforces its appeal to collectors, all the more so as the artist's three-dimensional works occupy a special place in his production. Rise testifies to a phase of maturity where sculptural tradition and technological innovation meet in balance.
