About the artwork
This work is a cuddly toy of the famous Disney character Mini Mouse, entirely covered in pink crochet. This technique, the artist's preferred medium, gives the work a special texture, adding a tactile and intimate dimension to this representation of Mini Mouse. A figure of childhood and popular culture, this anthropomorphic mouse is a comforting object, despite the artist's invasive universe. Like Joana Vasconcelos, Olek reappropriates the practice of crochet, elevating it to the status of autonomous art by invading places, objects and buildings. A committed artist committed to the idea of community, this work was the subject of a charity sale in 2015 to benefit the Kids For Peace organization. In this particular philanthropic context, the use of the childlike figure of Mini Mouse becomes significant.

About the artist
Born in 1978 in Communist Poland, Olek, whose real name is Agata Oleksiak, is a committed artist who lives and works in New York. After graduating in Cultural Studies in Poznan (Poland) in 2000, she moved to New York, where she won her first National Arts Club sculpture award, The Ruth Mellon Memorial Award For Sculpture, in 2004. It was in the early 2000s, in the United States, that she first used crochet in her art for a dancer's costume. Since then, she has not let go of her instrument, creating sculptures and installations around the world that have won critical acclaim, and even been featured in the New York Times. Exhibiting her work mainly in the street, she covers the Charging Bull on Wall Street in 2010, for example, and later a house for her Our Pink House project, which she exhibits at Avesta in Sweden. Although her work is rooted in the urban scene, it is also presented in galleries such as the Jonathan Levine Gallery in New York.
