About the artwork

This edition features a man skateboarding along a street, carrying a surfboard under his arm. This is Jeff Ho, surfer, skateboarder, artist and creator of the Zephyr brand, whose logo and name are inscribed on the surfboard. This representation originates from a photograph of Jeff Ho, captured by Glen E. Friedman in 2011. It was then silkscreened by Shepard Fairey. This edition fuses the cultures of skateboarding and surfing, embodied by each protagonist: Shepard Fairey through street art, Glen E. Friedman through photography, and Jeff Ho through his artistic work on the boards and his passion for these sports.

Expert opinion

This creation, representative of the styles of Shepard Fairey, Jeff Ho and Glen E. Friedman, is the result of a unique collaboration between these three artists. It resulted in the production of 300 copies in each of the two colors of this edition.

About the artist

Shepard Fairey (b. 1970), Jeff Ho (b. 1949) and Glen E. Friedman (b. 1962) are artists who collaborated in 2017. Shepard Fairey, street artist and screen printer, Glen E. Friedman, skateboard photographer and Jeff Ho, skateboarder, surfer and artist, who acted as models here, created an etching, produced in two colors: blue and gold. The inspiration for this work came from a photograph captured by Glen E. Friedman in 2011. It was Friedman who suggested that Shepard Fairey create an etching featuring Jeff Ho. Shepard Fairey recounts that when Glen E. Friedman suggested he create a print of Jeff Ho, he was concerned that Jeff Ho might not approve of them illustrating him. But thanks to Glen E. Friedman's persuasion, the collaboration was born. The result is an iconic representation of skate and surf culture, both in terms of the personalities featured and the distinctive artistic treatment of the medium.

“The fact that the subject is pioneer Jeff Ho makes the image not only iconic in an aesthetic and superficial sense, but also iconic in a historical and truly authentic sense. In illustrating the image, I tried to amplify the lines, shadows and textures that give the picture its stunning character.”
