Olek

Born in 1978 in Communist Poland, Olek, whose real name is Agata Oleksiak, is a committed artist who lives and works in New York. After graduating in Cultural Studies in Poznan (Poland) in 2000, she moved to New York, where she won her first National Arts Club sculpture award, The Ruth Mellon Memorial Award For Sculpture, in 2004. It was in the early 2000s, in the United States, that she first used crochet in her art for a dancer's costume. Since then, she has not let go of her instrument, creating sculptures and installations around the world that have won critical acclaim, and even been featured in the New York Times. Exhibiting her work mainly in the street, she covers the Charging Bull on Wall Street in 2010, for example, and later a house for her Our Pink House project, which she exhibits at Avesta in Sweden. Although her work is rooted in the urban scene, it is also presented in galleries such as the Jonathan Levine Gallery in New York.
