About the artist

Charming Baker, born in Hampshire, England, in 1964, is a British artist known for his distinctive approach to painting, sculpture, and printmaking. He spent his early life traveling globally with his father, a Commando in the British Army, before settling in Ripon, North Yorkshire, at the age of twelve. Baker attended Central Saint Martin's, later returning as a lecturer. Following his graduation, he worked as a commercial graphic designer for organizations such as the BBC and The Daily Telegraph while developing his personal artistic practice. His career gained momentum after an exhibition on Brick Lane in London in 2006. Baker's work has been exhibited internationally, including solo shows in London, New York, and Los Angeles. A sculpture titled 'Triumph in the Face of Absurdity', a collaboration with Sir Paul Smith, was displayed at the Victoria and Albert Museum. Baker's artistic output explores themes of life, death, love, and the human condition, often incorporating dark humor and references to literary classics. He is recognized for intentionally altering his works through methods such as drilling, cutting, or even shooting them, which questions conventional notions of art's sanctity and preciousness. His works are held in various international private collections.
