About the artwork
Among Vuk Vidor's best-known works, the ART HISTORY series is a fitting, yet humorous, tribute to his predecessors. From Pollock to Soulages to Warhol, Vuk Vidor celebrates those artists who have reached the pantheon of art history.
A work in constant evolution, ART HISTORY is a work that the artist regularly increases by one line, adding to each version an artist and the concept that characterizes him or her. A word symbolizing each artist enables the perilous exercise of a sharp yet critical reading of the art world. To celebrate the 20th anniversary of the series, Vuk Vidor has created a new "line" for this 2024 ART HISTORY, version F: INDIANA OWNS LOVE.
Expert opinion
Available from Artransfer in very limited quantities, this is a fine collector's item for art history lovers.
About the artist
Vuk Vidor is a contemporary artist of Serbian origin, recognized worldwide as a multidisciplinary artist. A graduate of the Beaux-Arts in Paris, he lives and works between Belgrade and Paris.
Through an eclectic practice, Vuk Vidor asserts himself as a committed artist. His work, marked by reflections on identity, society and collective memory, is both personal and universal.
He won the Ito Ham Prize in 1986, then decided to turn completely to painting in 1992. A series of ink-on-paper drawings entitled "King Ink", begun in 1989, often serve as the basis for his paintings.
Through both painting and installation work, Vuk Vidor explores the intersections between art, history and popular culture. He is particularly famous for his ART HISTORY series, in which he reinvents the icons of modern art with a critical and often ironic eye.
A multidisciplinary artist, Vuk Vidor collaborates with musicians Goran Bregović and Marc Cerrone, and the English rock band Duran Duran.
Alongside his personal career, he became head of the Centre Culturel Serbe de Paris in 2011, and is involved in numerous initiatives as an exhibition curator.
In 2018, he organized, designed and staged the reopening ceremony of the Serbian National Museum, which had been closed for 12 years. Since then, his exhibitions have multiplied internationally, both at fairs and in prestigious galleries.
“I'm fascinated by the lack of historical awareness in the modern world.”
