About the artwork

This portrait of Danish actress and model Helena Christensen, with her bare bust, unfolds in a gradation of black and white. The triangular composition guides the viewer's eye to the model's expression with closed eyelids, capturing a moment of intimacy in front of the lens. Comte chooses to treat his subject with spontaneity, so the sensuality of her body is magnified by the contrasting tones. Michel Comte has long specialized in the art of photographic portraiture. He has made a name for himself immortalizing such iconic figures as Sophia Loren, Catherine Deneuve, Louise Bourgeois and Jeremy Irons.

Expert opinion

Michel Comte offers a glamorous yet daring portrait of the actress and model, partially nude. It's the use of black and white that brings an intimate, delicate dimension to the image, lending it emotional depth.

About the artist

Michel Comte is a Swiss photographer, born in Zurich on February 19, 1954. He is one of the most influential photographers in fashion and portraiture, with a career spanning several decades. Michel Comte is involved in humanitarian projects through the International Committee of the Red Cross.
