About the artwork
Known for her geometrically shaped works, Yolande Bastoni here rounds out the contours while retaining her square structures. Through abstract art, the artist claims to convey her emotions and personal experiences, paying particular attention to the simplification of shapes and the use of color. Moving from a straight, geometrically structured composition to rounded, freer-looking contours, this work illustrates the new phase in the artist's artistic career and testifies to his stylistic evolution.
Expert opinion
A quest for balance in his canvases, this work is characteristic of the artist's second period.
About the artist
Born in 1961 in Martigues, Yolande Bastoni or Yo Bastoni is a French artist. After attending the Ecole des Arts Décoratifs in Nice and the Ecole des Beaux-Arts in Aix-en-Provence, she turned to abstraction. Initially part of the geometric abstract art movement, she reduced her work to squares, lines and crosses, before rounding out her forms and making them more pop. Her work has been presented by Galerie Berthéas in Saint Étienne, Vichy and Paris, and by Galerie Jane Griffiths in Val D'Isère.
“For me, abstract art is a kind of poetry, a metaphor. [...] My paintings start with a lot of cogitation, reflection, reading and writing. First, I make a sketch.”
