About the artwork
This painting by Russian artist Alexander Bagrat depicts a reclining nude woman. The work's striking force lies in its expressive treatment of the human figure, evoking the influence of the Expressionist movement. Bagrat explores the depths of the human soul through striking visual choices.
Expert opinion
Emblematic of Alexander Bagrat's pictorial explorations of questions of identity, this canvas is striking at first glance. The erotic character of the reclining woman contrasts with the expression on her face. In its boldness and expressiveness, this piece embodies the singular universe the artist has developed.
About the artist
A very young artist, Alexander Bagrat was born in Moscow in 1982 into a family of Armenian origin. At the age of sixteen, he moved to the United States to study at the Art Institute of Los Angeles and then at the Parsons School of Design in New York.
Present in numerous collections in France and abroad, Alexander Bagrat came to the attention of painter Pierre Soulages in 2010. His erotic works on kraft paper delight collectors. The contemporary expressionism of his male-female nudes reveals his visceral, raw and disturbing art.
