About the artwork
This work is a silkscreen produced in collaboration with the renowned Brand X Editions print studio in New York. It features a grotto in which a small figure with a lamp observes a huge sculpture of Zeus, in the form of an antique statue. The choice of sepia, the chiaroscuro and the composition recall classical and ancient models, but the work was created in 2021 using modern printing techniques and is part of a contemporary artistic approach, playing on memory and the perception of time. The work reflects Arsham's interest in fusing the ancient with the contemporary, drawing inspiration from Greek mythology and integrating modern elements to create a unique visual experience.
Expert opinion
This work is typical of Daniel Arsham's work, which plays on temporal ambiguity.
