About the artist
Japanese artist born in 1962. Lives and works between New York, Munich and Tokyo. Graduate of the Tokyo University of Fine Arts and Music. A disciple of Pop Art, he combines Japanese art with pop culture from the Land of the Rising Sun. He is best known for his collaborations with the world of luxury and fashion, including Marc Jacobs and Louis Vuitton. His works have been exhibited worldwide, including at the Mori Art Museum in Tokyo, the Guggenheim Museum in Bilbao and the Château de Versailles. Takashi Murakami is represented by Galerie Perrotin.
“My aesthetic sense was formed at an early age by my surroundings: the narrow residential spaces of Japan and the mental escapes from these spaces that took the form of manga and anime.”
