About the artwork
This unique work by Bordalo II, created in 2025, is part of the Small Trash Animals - S.T.A. Neutral series. It takes the form of a sculptural assemblage representing a small animal, here evoking a lemur, composed of waste and salvaged materials such as plastic, wood and various industrial scraps. Presented in a box, the piece plays on the contrast between the animal's expressive fragility and the harshness of its constituent materials. The textures, paint drips and salvaged elements give the work a strong visual and emotional presence, while underlining the artist's central concern with overconsumption and the human impact on biodiversity. Signed by the artist, this unique work stands out for its intimate character and sculptural dimension, both raw and sensitive.
Expert opinion
This work is fully in keeping with Bordalo II's emblematic approach, while offering a more intimate, domestic version of his famous monumental sculptures. Its reduced format and unique character reinforce its appeal to collectors looking for a representative yet accessible piece by the artist. Belonging to the Small Trash Animals series testifies to a strong conceptual continuity, where recycling becomes an artistic and political act. The quality of the assembly, the legibility of the subject and the artist's signature make this a coherent, accomplished and immediately identifiable work. On today's market, this type of small-format one-off piece occupies a sought-after position at the crossroads of sculpture, street art and engaged contemporary art.
