About the artwork
This photograph shows a fisherman at work on a river. He is in his pirogue, probably wielding a net or an oar. In the background, a camel can be seen on the ground. This photographer captures a moment in the daily life of the Bozos, a Malian ethnic group renowned for its close relationship with the Niger River and fishing. The image was taken by Françoise Huguier in 1989, during a journey across the African continent, following in the footsteps of writer and ethnologist Michel Leiris.
