About the artist
Mehdi Cibille, born in 1976 in the Yvelines district of France, is an artist who initially worked as a graphic designer starting in 1997. He is also known by his street name, "Le MoDuLe de ZeeR" (LMDLDZR), a moniker chosen for its calligraphic symmetry and flow, allowing him to overlay letters. Cibille's early artistic development took place in the industrial wastelands of les Hauts-de-Seine, which influenced his work. Cibille's artistic practice centers around his "Module," a graphic element consisting of dark lines forming junctions, which he developed in the early 2000s. This module can be interpreted as a cellular development, Mayan glyphs, or a contemporary iteration of Jean Dubuffet's L'Hourloupe series. His work often explores the relationship between art, science, and mathematics, frequently incorporating themes of noughts and crosses, which he describes as resembling spaceships or robotic language. Cibille has exhibited his work in various international cities, including Paris, New York, and Geneva. He has collaborated with figures such as designer Agnès b, who has hosted his exhibitions at her Galerie du Jour in Paris and Foundation La Fab, and also in Tokyo. He also performed at the FIAC in 2015 in partnership with the Paris Brain Institute. Since 2019, Mehdi Cibille has been represented in France by Le Feuvre & Roze gallery, where he held his first solo show, "Logologique," in October 2020.
