About the artwork
This black-and-white work epitomizes Claude Guillaumin's artistic universe: a young woman with a partially nude body, seemingly caught unawares by the photographer's lens. The striking contrast of tones highlights the curves of the body. The shadows cast in horizontal lines create a graphic aesthetic as mysterious as it is sophisticated. Claude Guillaumin's photographic approach focuses on the contemporary world and the representation of the female figure through intimate portraits.
Expert opinion
The composition and use of black and white add a vintage, glamorous aspect to the photography, linking it to an aesthetic close to Hollywood cinema and film noir. It is characterized by a particular attention to detail and emotion.
