About the artwork
Created in 2021 by Adriana Oliver, Someone to Love is a full-color silkscreen print on Somerset Velvet 300 gsm paper, published by Moosey Art in an edition of 75 copies, measuring 86 x 72 cm. In keeping with the Spanish artist's pared-down, instantly recognizable aesthetic, the work features a female portrait whose face is deliberately devoid of distinctive features. The figure, dressed in a deep-green top, stands out against a neutral, warm-toned background, creating a subtle balance between presence and absence. By removing facial detail, Oliver focuses attention on posture, silhouette and shadow play, transforming the portrait into a universal rather than individual representation. This neutralization of identity reinforces the introspective dimension of the composition, inviting viewers to project their own emotions and narratives into the image. Silkscreening on Somerset Velvet, renowned for its soft texture and absorbent quality, lends the surface an elegant chromatic depth and finesse of execution.
Expert opinion
Someone to Love aptly illustrates Adriana Oliver's research into anonymity and contemporary representation of the female body. By erasing facial features, the artist deconstructs traditional portrait codes and questions the social construction of identity and the gaze. Paradoxically, this absence becomes a powerful vector of presence, opening up a space for emotional and narrative projection. The limited edition of 75 copies ensures relative rarity on the market and reinforces collectors' interest in the editions published by Moosey Art, renowned for their exacting production standards. The quality of the Somerset Velvet 300 gsm paper guarantees stability and durability, while enhancing the density of the colorful flat tints characteristic of Oliver's work. This work is part of a coherent and assertive artistic trajectory, offering both an immediate visual force and a conceptual depth that sustain its attractiveness on the contemporary art market.
About the artist
Born in 1990, Adriana Olivier is a Spanish artist who, initially a photographer, turned to acrylic on canvas or wood, as well as sculpture. Specializing in portraits of faceless, flat men and women with pared-down colors and predominantly black outlines, her artistic practice is inspired by photographs and, above all, films from the 50s and 60s. The absence of faces on these neo-pop characters allows her to emphasize their universality and lack of individuality, interchangeable with our own emotions. His work has been shown around the world, including in Montreal in 2018 (Duran Mashaal Gallery), Taiwan in 2020 (Dopeness Art Lab) and London in 2021 (Moosey Art).
