About the artwork
Taking up the famous network of lines and colors in Piet Mondrian's paintings, Liu Ye chooses to invoke the history of art. Yet the figure seems to be at the origin of the drawing in front of her, about to fill a square with red. The square itself is inscribed in a format reminiscent both of Piet Mondrian's geometry and of the colors used by the Dutch painter, creating a mise en abîme.
Expert opinion
This work perfectly reflects Liu Ye's delicate universe. Over the years, the Chinese artist has developed a style that synthesizes human nature through a modern, international prism.
