About the artwork
Against a cheerful, colorful background, characteristic of Liu Ye's work, two similar but differently-sized figures stand out. Evoking a maternal relationship, these expressionless figures seem frozen in the composition, their arms resting along their bodies like figurines. Echoing Piet Mondrian, the background is made up of colored rectangles, perennially inscribing the work in the history of art.
Expert opinion
This work perfectly reflects Liu Ye's delicate universe. Over the years, the Chinese artist has developed a style that synthesizes human nature through a modern, international prism.
