About the artwork
Queen Product (Red) is a silkscreen print created in 2014 by French-American artist Thierry Guetta. Printed in an edition of 150, the work measures 55.9 × 55.9 cm and is printed on Arches archival paper with hand-peeled edges. The composition depicts the members of the Queen band in an iconic group portrait, inspired by the photographic imagery associated with the Queen II album. The faces emerge from an expressive pictorial treatment composed of ink splashes, drips and gestural textures. Two wide red arcs frame the composition, providing a powerful visual contrast with the black and gray tones of the portrait. The image combines photography, painting and graphic intervention, creating a dialogue between popular culture, music and street art aesthetics.
Expert opinion
This work perfectly illustrates Mr. Brainwash's artistic approach, which combines iconic references from popular culture, street art techniques and media imagery. By reinterpreting the famous Queen portrait, the artist transforms a cult image from rock history into a contemporary composition marked by gestural and graphic energy. Ink drips and projections recall the techniques of urban painting, while the visual structure remains faithful to the original image, creating a balance between homage and artistic reinterpretation. Mr. Brainwash's silkscreens are particularly sought-after by collectors, as they embody one of the major aspects of his work: the transformation of cultural icons into contemporary pop images. This work is thus a continuation of his production dedicated to emblematic figures of music and popular culture.
About the artist
Mr. Brainwash, real name Thierry Guetta, is a contemporary artist who skilfully juggles street and pop art. Using his innovative style, he creates larger-than-life exhibitions, and doesn't hesitate to navigate between the different spheres of art, notably designing album covers for Madonna, Rick Ross and KYGO, or appearing in numerous films and TV shows. By appearing in one of the first documentaries to trace the history of street art, Exit Through the Gift Shop, he established himself alongside Banksy as one of the major artists in this discipline. Through his work, Mr. Brainwash aims to democratize art, opening it up to a diverse audience.
