About the artwork
Bryce Delplanque succeeds in personifying this little table, the red main subject, which seems to come alive on the canvas. The color attracts the viewer's eye, as does the composition: the table is positioned at an angle. More broadly, objects are central to his artistic practice: since the beginning of his career, he has revisited the genre of the still life in the heritage of nineteenth-century artists and craftsmen.
Each of his canvases leaves plenty of room for personal interpretation, without providing a linear account of the objects.
Expert opinion
As a keen observer of the world around him, Bryce Delplanque captures details and moments that many people forget to look at. His approach is characterized by an exploration of the poetry of the everyday.
