About the artwork

Like its "matrices", this work on metal plate features a luminous molten glass pebble revealing a photograph, accompanied by a surrounding set of mirrors reflecting words using suspended print. The installation promotes meditation, illustrated by a photograph of a person with hands clasped and the phrase "medidate's good 4 hearth". The use of English reflects the artist's identity as a "citizen of the world". Between language and philosophy, this work invites introspective reflection.

Expert opinion

This unique piece perfectly illustrates the artist's work, the fruit of elaborate stagings where sculpture, installation and photography converge towards a common goal.

About the artist

Born in 1964, Jérome Btesh is a French artist. He works in metal and glass, juggling images and words. Since 2001, he has been creating objects he calls "matrices" and "light boxes". His "matrices" are steel-plate installations combining an image under glass with a word or phrase reflected on a mirror. His "light boxes" are light boxes containing a photograph. His work has been exhibited worldwide, including at the Stop-Art Gallery in San José (USA) in 2002-2003 and at the Davis Museum in Barcelona (Spain) in 2010. He was also a permanent artist at the 59 Rivoli artist residency in Paris.
