About the artwork
The painting "Jeune fille de Strasbourg" was created by Israeli painter Alexandre Sacha Putov. It depicts a close-up of a woman's face, composed of solid colors.
The character's large eyes reinforce the expressiveness of the canvas, which appears to have been captured in full movement. The work has a biographical dimension, rooted in a period during which the artist produced portraits of people she met in Paris, as in her "Les Tois de Paris" series.
Expert opinion
This highly expressive work is emblematic of Alexander Putov's artistic practice. The artist's gestural execution is palpable. The richness of the artist's references is perceptible on this canvas, where several influences intermingle: Soutine and Chagall in particular. Internationally renowned, Putov attracts the attention of major collectors around the world, and his paintings have been exhibited at international contemporary art fairs.
About the artist
Born in Russia on March 9, 1940, and died in France in November 2008, Alexander Sacha Putov was an Israeli painter associated with the Art-Cloche movement developed in the 1980s. After studying medicine, he turned to art in Moscow. In 1972, he exhibited at the home of the poet Vladislav Lion. His paintings were soon noticed by art critics and collectors the world over. It was thanks to dealers Jean Charles Riz, Jean Maignan and Bela Gelman that his work gained recognition. His biography, Le Réalisme du dessin, was published in 2013, along with a catalog tracing his artistic practice from 1973 to 1986.
