About the artwork
Invader laid his first mosaic in Paris's Passage de la Main d'Or in 1998, but it wasn't until the year 2000 that he began marketing ready-to-use invasion kits on his website. These mosaics were intended to help space invaders invade the streets of the world, by involving his community. In this kit, the artist's emblematic alien is immersed in Japanese culture, wearing the colors white and red.
Expert opinion
Reusing Japan's national identity, its flag, Invader replaces the red circle, an illustration of the sun, with his famous extraterrestrial.
About the artist
Invader (b. 1969, France) is a leading figure in urban art. He is famous for his Space Invader-inspired mosaics, installed on the walls of over 80 cities worldwide. His work, both discreet and omnipresent, questions visual invasion, collective memory and urban cartography.
His visual language, based on the pixel as a basic unit, evokes geek culture, street art and the decorative arts. He also creates limited-edition works, such as this silkscreen, which translate his universe into more intimate formats.
