About the artwork

Hope. Passenger n° 2031 and passenger n" 1972" is part of the Dream and Storm series, which was exhibited in Paris in 2008 at Eugénio Recuenco's first solo show. The artist expressed his own sensibility, complementing his commissioned work for which he is recognized by major brands and magazines. The work was sold unframed. When, at the time of acquisition, we asked for a frame, Eugénio Recuenco himself chose the frame to match the work, had it framed in Spain and supplied it to us free of charge.

Expert opinion

Produced in 2006, Hope. Passenger n° 2031 and Passenger n° 1972 by Eugenio Recuenco is part of the artist's deeply cinematographic photographic practice, in which each image is conceived as a scene suspended between narrative and symbolic staging. Produced in an edition of 8 copies in mineral inks on aluminum in a monumental format of 150 x 200 cm, the work boasts a strong physical presence and remarkable chromatic depth, enhanced by the materiality of the support. Recuenco, renowned for his theatrical aesthetic and meticulous attention to light, costume and composition, here constructs an image that is both timeless and narrative, where the figure becomes a vector of psychological tension and an allegorical dimension. The very limited edition reinforces the piece's rarity within its corpus, while the aluminum technique lends the image an almost painterly quality, akin to a contemporary painting. This work fully illustrates Recuenco's ability to move beyond the fashion photography from which he emerged, to create an autonomous artistic approach in which the image becomes a space for fiction, memory and projection, making it a particularly relevant piece for collectors sensitive to staged photography of the highest formal standards.
