About the artwork
This vibrant edition by Mr. combines archival pigment printing with silkscreen layers to create an intensely colorful, high-definition composition. The artwork features two anime-style girls set against a dense, graffiti-inspired background filled with pop-cultural references, pixel graphics, and manga motifs—hallmarks of Mr.’s distinctive visual universe. A leading figure of the Superflat movement founded by Takashi Murakami, Mr. explores themes of youth culture, fantasy, identity, and the aesthetics of otaku imagination. This edition showcases his playful yet highly polished approach, merging digital clarity with the tactile richness of silkscreen. Published by Kaikai Kiki in Tokyo, the piece is part of a structured edition of 100, complemented by 25 Studio Proofs and 25 Artist’s Proofs, all hand-signed and individually numbered.
Expert opinion
Editions by Mr. produced under Kaikai Kiki carry strong provenance and are highly valued within the Superflat and Japanese contemporary art markets. The combination of pigment print and silkscreen allows the piece to achieve both fine detail and vibrant, translucent color—qualities that collectors prize.
Images featuring schoolgirls, manga aesthetics, and layered pop iconography are central to Mr.’s identity and remain some of the most commercially successful motifs in his oeuvre.
With its relatively large edition structure but clear distinction between AP and SP sets, the work appeals to both established and entry-level collectors of Superflat art.
