About the artwork

This emblematic silkscreen by Fafi features one of her iconic female characters, recognizable by her instantly identifiable aesthetic, somewhere between pop culture, street art and subversive kawaii imagery. The face, treated in flat tones of pink and purple, adopts a heart shape that accentuates the tension between apparent softness and assumed sensuality. Half-closed eyes, half-open lips and hearts on the cheeks contribute to a deliberately ambivalent iconography, oscillating between innocence and provocation. The extreme stylization of the face, the strong black contours and sharp contrasts testify to a graphic mastery derived from graffiti and illustration. The uncluttered background highlights the central figure, while the artist's signature on the right-hand side and the embossed stamp on the lower left reinforce the work's authenticity and editorial character.

Expert opinion

This work is fully in line with the visual vocabulary developed by Fafi since the 2000s, in which she constructs a singular feminine universe, at once powerful, ironic and critical of traditional representations of the female body. The fact that this is an artist's proof (Printer's Proof) is of particular interest to collectors, as these prints are generally produced in very small quantities, outside the traditional commercial edition. With its accessible format, immediate legibility and the artist's international recognition, Good Girls represents a coherent piece for a collector wishing to acquire an iconic work by Fafi, with a good balance between aesthetic value and market potential.

About the artist

Born in 1976, Fabienne Saincry aka Fafi is a French urban artist who lives and works between Paris and Biarritz. Beginning her career with graffiti in her native Toulouse, she went on to paint a fictional universe, which she calls "The Carmine Vault", composed of female characters, the "Fafinettes". Her work is recognized worldwide, as evidenced by her numerous collaborations with Adidas, Sony and Chanel, her press articles and illustrations for Vogue and Elle, and her international exhibitions ranging from the Palais de Tokyo in Paris to the Corey Helford Gallery in Los Angeles. In 2023, she will be traveling between Tokyo, New York, Los Angeles and Hawaii to present her "Portraits Happenings" project, in which she draws her lovers in fafinette. She is also working on her second graphic novel, following the 2012 release of "The Carmine Vault" published by Rizzoli Books and Alternatives.
