About the artwork
Invader laid his first mosaic in Paris's Passage de la Main d'Or in 1998, but it wasn't until 2000 that he marketed ready-to-use invasion kits on his website. These mosaics were intended to take part in the invasion of space invaders in streets all over the world, involving his community. This kit dates back to 2013 and is made up of 110 ceramic tiles, 40 of which are phosphorescent and glow in the dark.
Expert opinion
This invasion kit differs from the others in that some of its tiles are phosphorescent and it is larger in size.
About the artist
Invader (b. 1969, France) is a leading figure in urban art. He is famous for his Space Invader-inspired mosaics, installed on the walls of over 80 cities worldwide. His work, both discreet and omnipresent, questions visual invasion, collective memory and urban cartography.
His visual language, based on the pixel as a basic unit, evokes geek culture, street art and the decorative arts. He also creates limited-edition works, such as this silkscreen, which translate his universe into more intimate formats.
“"I kept the name of the game as an alias because it's a perfect definition of my work. I'm a space invader."”
