About the artwork
Using the stencil and spray paint techniques they learned on the street, the artist duo offer, as usual, an animal figure taking on an almost divine dimension: a haloed bird. A metaphor for man, the animal is a pretext for disseminating a philosophy, with the duo giving pride of place to the symbols hidden in their work.
Expert opinion
This work is faithful to the duo's characteristic style and their fantasy universe.
About the artist
Founded in 2010, the Monkey Bird Crew collective, which lives and works in Paris, is made up of two artists from Bordeaux, Louis Boidron and Edouard Egea. Meeting at design school, they began their artistic practice on the streets with stencils. Renowned for the precision of their strokes in an anthropomorphic universe, the animals they depict reflect human concerns through the symbols they sow in their works. Attached to urban art, their works have invaded the walls of numerous cities around the world, including Paris, Amsterdam and New Delhi. In 2016, they created a gigantic 32-meter-high fresco for the Grenoble Street Art Fest, pushing back the boundaries of urban art.
“Our work is definitely anthropic. We talk about man and his duality as a social animal, balanced between instinct and consciousness.”
