About the artwork
This work is a rich composition, combining various elements in the manner of a collage. On the left, a man sits on a sofa, integrated into an interior, while on the right, a kind of window opens onto the outside. A man in mid-jump seems to plunge between these two universes, without completely belonging to them. Carlos Betancourt's work is a combination of his personal experiences, influenced by popular culture and his travels. This creation is no exception to this approach: graffiti adorns the interior wall, referring to urban art and his practice, which he describes as "contemporary graffiti", while the inclusion of Vladimir Tretchikoff's Chinese Girl, considered the most reproduced work of art in the world, evokes a dialogue with art history. In this work, the artist uses the collage technique created by the Dada movement and Hannah Höch, assembling disparate elements to create a composition whose meaning is renewed.
