About the artwork
Drawing 9 is part of a series of drawings produced by Taku Obata for the group show Connections at Hong Kong's Over The Influence gallery, where in 2020 he exhibited alongside other influential artists on the contemporary scene such as VHILS and Liu Bolin. Celebrated for his dancing figures, the artist offers a carefully orchestrated choreography. The symbiosis of the dancers and the speed of their movements transform the composition into beams of light. The colors used are reminiscent of neon lights, contrasting with the darkness of the rest of the work.
Expert opinion
A rising star on the international contemporary scene, Taku Obata has established a distinctive and innovative style. Following in the footsteps of the Futurist artists of the early 20th century, he reactivates the subject of movement and its decomposition, offering a contemporary, luminous version.
