About the artwork
This work, featuring a child in front of a glass rabbit, is full of contrasts and perfectly reflects the world of Roby Dwi Antono. The glass toy, as a sign of impossible childhood, juxtaposed with the character's almost adult posture, imposes itself as a real critique of an innocence and lightness stolen from childhood. The little girl, placed in an aseptic space, stands out with her hair and piercing black eyes staring back at us with an inquisitive gaze.
Expert opinion
At the age of 32, Roby Dwi Antono is constantly in the news. Since 2014, when his first work went on public sale, his stock has exploded. In May 2022, his painting Asih sold for four times its estimate at Christie's, making him an artist to watch closely.
About the artist
Indonesian artist born in 1990. Originally inspired by the work of the famous surrealist couple Mark Ryden and Marion Peck, Roby Dwi Antono has developed a style all his own, presenting childlike figures with wide-open eyes and fixed stares.
