About the artwork

This work features a woman painted in a palette of brown tones. A female figure is at the heart of the composition, surrounded by thick lines that wrap around her body like draperies, creating a sensual, bewitching atmosphere. The woman is depicted in her simplest form, stripped naked, which reinforces the intimacy of the scene. Her head is slightly lowered towards her right foot, which she holds gracefully. This pose evokes both a dance scene, where the finesse of the movement is captured, and a moment of intimacy, perhaps during her toilette, where the gesture of the female figure is reminiscent of Edgar Degas's "Une femme dans une baignoire s'épongeant la jambe" (c.1883). The work as a whole evokes an impression of softness and sensuality, underlined by the title "Détente". This work invites the viewer to contemplate the delicacy of this woman in all her simplicity and grace, capturing a moment of relaxation, intimacy and reverie.
