About the artwork
With this abstract work, Stéphane Calais captures a sense of calm and solitude typical of the spring season in a northern region, as the title suggests. He uses cold tones, typical of winter giving way to the renewal of spring, and highlights the subtleties of landscapes in transition, playing on texture and light. Avril au Nord is a poetic reflection on the passing of the seasons and the slow transformation of landscapes.
Expert opinion
This work is emblematic of Stéphane Calais, representing his hybrid approach to art where lyrical abstraction and poetic figuration meet.
