Yasuaki Onishi

Born in 1979, Yasuaki Onishi is a Japanese artist specializing in installation, sculpture and painting. He studied sculpture at Tsukuba University and Kyoto Municipal University of the Arts. His sculptures use various materials such as tree branches, wire and hot glue, creating landscapes suspended in boxes. His work has been shown in exhibitions across Japan and internationally, including at the National Museum of Art in Osaka and the Marlin and Regina Miller Gallery in the USA. In 2010, he received a fellowship from the U.S.-Japan Foundation, as well as a grant from the Pollock-Krasner Foundation. His awards include the Granship Art Compe Prize in 2014 and the Sakuyakonohana Prize in the same year, in addition to numerous other distinctions over the years.
