Teresa Esgaio

Born in 1985 and based in Portugal, Teresa Esgaio was initially drawn to the world of science. She finally graduated from the University of Fine Arts in Lisbon in 2000. Her artistic practice is marked by this interest in the exactitude of mathematics and science. A bichromatic draughtswoman, she works with different shades of grey to explore themes of time, memory and identity. The precision and technique of her work have already won over numerous galleries and museums since 2015. Following her residency at the Undergods gallery in Lisbon in 2017, and numerous other national exhibitions, she is taking part in a group show in London in 2020. In 2022, her work is among the finalists competing for the Sovereign Portuguese Art Prize, to be exhibited at the Palace of Arts in Oporto.
