Sina Ghasemi

Sina Ghasemi Sheelsar is a contemporary Iranian painter renowned for both his individual and collective practice within the Ghasemi Brothers trio, formed with his brothers Morteza (b. 1982) and Mojtaba (b. 1987). Graduating with a Master's degree in painting from Tehran University in 2012, he is developing a singular body of work that links intimate memory, cultural identity and formal freedom. Since 2015, the Ghasemi brothers have collaborated closely while preserving their individual trajectories, inventing a common pictorial language nourished by experimentation, spontaneity and a poetic attention to nature. Their visual universe draws deeply on the landscapes and symbols of their hometown of Bandar Anzali, on the shores of the Caspian Sea: rain, water reflections and the color blue become recurring elements of their aesthetic vocabulary. The work of Sina Ghasemi Sheelsar and the collective has been presented on the international scene through numerous major exhibitions and fairs. In New York, the series Red Room 2: Migratory Birds (Elga Wimmer PCC Gallery, 2017) was hailed by Harper's Bazaar Arabia for its reflection on forced migration. In London, they participated in Soft Edge of the Blade (Frieze No.9 Cork Street, 2022) and the bahith (seeker) exhibition at Gazelli Art House. Their presence has also been asserted in Athens (Condo Unit at The Breeder, 2018, acclaimed by Frieze and artnet), Dubai (Art Dubai 2019 and 2024), Shanghai (ART021, since 2021), Paris (FIAC Online, 2021) and Toronto, where they exhibit regularly at Zaal Art Gallery, notably with the major solo show Blue Bird in 2024. With his sensitive, fluid approach, Ghasemi Sheelsar embodies a new generation of Iranian artists whose painting dialogues with the world while remaining rooted in the poetry of his native land.
