Shadi Ghadirian

Shadi Ghadirian is an Iranian photographer born in 1974 in Teheran. A graduate of Azad University, she has established herself on the international art scene through her exploration of the tensions between modernity and tradition in Iranian culture in her photographic series. Her work is intimately linked to her identity as a Muslim woman living in Iran in 2015. She questions the role of women in society, exploring censorship, religion and modernity in Iran, but her art also deals with issues concerning women living in other parts of the world.
