Johnny Dewe Mathews
Born in London in 1946, Johnny Dewe Mathews trained as an architect. A few years after graduating from the Polytechnic of Central London, he worked as a portrait photographer in Mexico, exhibiting his portraits at the National Portrait Gallery in 1975. From 1977 onwards, he abandoned photography and devoted himself to drawing, then painting. His inspiration comes from observing groups of people working together, such as musicians, chefs and film crews. His work explores the visual forms that emerge from human movement and interaction. His work has been the subject of solo exhibitions worldwide (London, Paris, Santa Fe, New York, Los Angeles and Italy).
