Jean-Michel Alberola

Born in Saïda, Algeria, in 1953, Jean-Michel Albérola lives and works in Paris. For over three decades, his work has unfolded in a variety of media, blending figuration, abstraction and conceptual art. Paintings, sculptures, neon lights, artists' books and films are all forms he uses to explore themes such as the fragility of beauty, the ambiguity of the gaze and the challenges of the artist's role. His work, often imbued with humor and poetry, also tackles political and social issues. Through this approach, Albérola questions the limits and purpose of art. His works are part of prestigious collections, including those of the Centre Pompidou, the Musée d'Art Moderne de la Ville de Paris, the Fondation Cartier and many other public and private institutions around the world.
