Expert opinion
The work embodies Mauro Corda’s artistic practice, which constantly explores the limits of the human body and its expressive potential. The choice of bright yellow—at once joyful, artificial, and unsettling—highlights the paradox between the balloon’s festive appearance and the raw intensity of the face it contains. Produced in a very limited edition (only eight copies), the work demonstrates both Corda’s technical mastery and his unique ability to imbue seemingly ordinary forms with existential reflection.
About the artist
Born in 1960 in Lourdes, France, Mauro Corda is a renowned sculptor known for his explorations of human and animal forms, often deformed, hybridized, or placed in paradoxical contexts. Trained at the École des Beaux-Arts in Reims and later in Paris, he has exhibited widely in France and abroad since the 1980s. His work, which reflects on identity, marginality, and human fragility, occupies a distinctive place in contemporary sculpture. Corda masterfully employs materials such as bronze, aluminum, steel, and resin, combining technical virtuosity with emotional depth.
