About the artwork
This work is a hypnotic, colorful flower. It is the fruit of the second collaboration between artists Kai and Sunny and Shepard Fairey, which resulted in two versions of this silkscreen. While Kai and Sunny's artistic touch can be seen in their exploration of fine, colorful lines, Shepard Fairey's influence can be seen in the star in the center of the composition, which features the figure of André, a recurring motif in his work. This edition is reminiscent of the hippie movement of the 60s, with its bewitching motifs and vibrant colors.
Expert opinion
This work represents the work of all three artists in a distinctive way, highlighting Shepard Fairey's iconic André figure and Kai and Sunny's characteristic lines and colors, while evoking the hippie era of the 1960s.
About the artist
Kai & Sunny (born 1975 and 1977) are a duo of English artists. Both graduated in art and design from Epsom School of Art (UK), they work with color and line. Shepard Fairey, aka Obey (b. 1970), is an American urban artist. A 1992 graduate of the Rhodes Island School of Design, he is a silkscreen artist, muralist and illustrator. Kai & Sunny and Shepard Fairey have collaborated on several occasions, first in 2013, then in 2017, resulting in a total of four screenprints, each produced in 200 copies. These works take the form of a hypnotic flower, with the starry figure of André at the center, characteristic of Shepard Fairey's work. The first collaboration in 2013 resulted in more sober, silver and gold colors, while the 2017 collaboration revealed Kai and Sunny's colorful work with a red and a yellow version of a silkscreen this time square.
