About the artwork

“Untitled” (1968) is a unique bronze sculpture by Brigitte Waldach, measuring 58 × 20 × 35 cm. The figure takes the form of a compact, vertical, almost archaic silhouette—both human and indefinable. The body appears hollowed out, traversed by internal tensions, while the irregular surfaces and the rough texture of the bronze preserve the memory of the artist’s touch and the material itself. The work exudes a silent, dense presence, where the balance between mass and void creates a sense of restraint and gravity. Neither narrative nor descriptive, this sculpture suggests an inner state, a contained force, embedded in a slow, introspective temporality.

Expert opinion

This sculpture demonstrates the expressive power of Brigitte Waldach’s sculptural work and her early interest in the concepts of the body, vulnerability, and inner tension. The choice of bronze, combined with a deliberately raw and unfinished form, reinforces the work’s timeless, almost ritualistic character. A unique piece, it holds a special place in a career largely associated with drawing and text, revealing another facet of the artist’s practice. This work appeals to collectors who appreciate challenging sculpture, where emotional power takes precedence over immediate formal appeal.

About the artist

Brigitte Waldach, born in 1966 in Karlsruhe, Germany, is a contemporary artist whose work lies at the crossroads of drawing, text and installation. Trained at the Staatliche Akademie der Bildenden Künste in Karlsruhe, since the 1990s she has developed a singular practice in which handwriting becomes image, material and conceptual content all at once. Her work is characterized by a minimal, introspective visual language, often composed of words, phrases or fragments of thought traced in ink, graphite or paint. These texts, sometimes barely legible, oscillate between intimate confession, critical commentary and existential reflection. The body, identity, vulnerability, memory and power relationships are at the heart of her research, in a constant tension between unveiling and restraint. Brigitte Waldach exhibits regularly in Europe and internationally, in galleries, institutions and at contemporary art fairs. Her work, at once silent and intensely present, questions the place of language in visual art and the capacity of drawing to carry an emotional and political charge. She has established herself as a discreet but essential figure on a contemporary scene attentive to notions of subjectivity and inner resistance.
