About the artwork

This work features a room with chairs grouped together at its center. The interplay of colors and shadows gives the space an intimate, almost cinematic feel, at once familiar and disconcerting. The absence of human figures in this space reinforces the idea of solitude and introspection, as if this interior were a reflection of the soul or spirit.

Expert opinion

This work is typical of Gotscho's work, which invites reflection on the human being.

About the artist

Gotscho, born in 1945, is a contemporary French artist who has transcended the boundaries between art, fashion and design. After studying literature, he moved into the worlds of film, theater and fashion before devoting himself fully to his own artistic practice. In the 1990s, he began fusing various materials in his sculptures and installations, creating evocative settings that, in the absence of human presence, invite reflection on the human being. He is also renowned for his photographic series "Gilles and Gotscho", produced with photographer Nan Goldin, documenting his partner Gilles Dusein's struggle with illness. In 2019, Gotscho opens the Rupture Arts & Books gallery in Paris, presenting the exhibition "RONIN GRRRLS", featuring his book of the same name. His work has been exhibited in prestigious institutions, including the Maison Européenne de la Photographie (MEP) in Paris, where he has been hailed for his ability to confront artistic universes and practices.
