About the artwork

This composition is strewn with various elements that reflect a world somewhere between "primitive" and "urban", in the artist's own words. The work features rather primitive human silhouettes, their faces masked by black squares, creating an impression of anonymity or censorship. Vivid, contrasting colors emerge against a textured, chaotic background. Digital references can be seen in the inscription "111010", which may evoke binary language, as well as graphic elements linked to contemporary urban culture, such as tags and pictograms. Overall, Skunkdog's work is a complex exploration of the themes of technology, the influence of primitive art, urbanity and contemporary culture.

Expert opinion

Defining his art as both "primitive" and "urban", this work is characteristic of Skunkdog's artistic practice.

About the artist

Born in 1968, Skunkdog, whose real name is David Negri, is a French artist living in Marseille. Although he inherited his passion for painting from his father, he began his painting career relatively late in Paris. Exhibiting his work for the first time in Provence, he soon obtained new opportunities, and took his work as far as New York. Between France and the United States, SkunkDog has developed an artistic style fusing figurative art, art brut and urban art. Working on a crude medium with only his imagination as a constraint, he nevertheless produced an exhibition in tribute to Serge Gainsbourg.
