About the artwork

This painting features a composition dominated by intense shades of red, varying subtly between darker and brighter hues. The scene seems to represent an abstract landscape where blurred shapes evoke a barely perceptible nature: perhaps trees, a stretch of water, and a veiled horizon. The absence of distinct detail and the predominance of color create an immersive, contemplative mood, calling the viewer to an emotional, sensory experience rather than a narrative reading. The lightly shaded texture, with gentle transitions between tones, evokes diffused light or a time of day when the atmosphere becomes dense and enveloping. The dominant red can symbolize warmth, vitality and emotional tension. This work thus explores the relationship between abstraction, nature and human emotions, transcending the boundaries between figurative landscape and pure color research, themes specific to Nguyen Ba Tuan.

Expert opinion

This painting perfectly illustrates Nguyen Ba Tuyen's sensitivity to color and his contemporary approach, which remains faithful to a meditative aesthetic specific to Vietnamese culture.

About the artist
