About the artwork

This painting by David Negri is an explosion of color and dynamism. It depicts a frontal portrait, fusing the energy of street art with an aesthetic akin to tribal art and Pop Art. The background, in shades of purple and mauve, is the basis for a composition bursting with color. The face, stylized and abstract, is surrounded by a head of hair or a feathered mask, created with lively brushstrokes and drips of paint. The moon-shaped eye, surrounded by graphic symbols, and the sketched mouth add to the character's mystical, powerful aspect. The artist uses a mix of bright colors: yellow, pink, blue, green, and splashes of white paint to accentuate the movement. Geometric patterns and black strokes reinforce the work's graphic, spontaneous style.

Expert opinion

This work by Skunkdog illustrates all the expressive power of his universe: a face bursting into an explosion of bright colors, drips and projections akin to action painting, where punk energy and street art aesthetics meet the instinctive gestures of art brut. With its chromatic intensity and almost musical dimension, the canvas embodies the spirit of rebellion and vitality that characterizes his work.

About the artist

Born in 1968, Skunkdog, whose real name is David Negri, is a French artist living in Marseille. Although he inherited his passion for painting from his father, he began his painting career relatively late in Paris. Exhibiting his work for the first time in Provence, he soon obtained new opportunities, and took his work as far as New York. Between France and the United States, SkunkDog has developed an artistic style fusing figurative art, art brut and urban art. Working on a crude medium with only his imagination as a constraint, he nevertheless produced an exhibition in tribute to Serge Gainsbourg.
