About the artwork

"Trespassers" is a collaboration between Haroshi, a Japanese sculptor renowned for his work with recycled skateboards, and James Jean, a Taiwanese-American artist famous for his dreamlike, symbolic illustrations. The work features a young boy, axe in hand, riding a wooden skateboard and carrying a kind of multicolored wooden sculpture. This statuette is a reference to Haroshi's iconic "Guzo" sculpture, made from recycled skateboard boards and inspired by the figures of deities or totems, seeking to pay homage to modern, urban culture. The young man on the skateboard is reminiscent of James Jean's "woodcutter", a metaphor for the creative process and the tension between man and nature. The title "Trespassers" suggests an exploration of limits - be they physical, social or personal - and embodies a reflection on the role of art as a means of transgression and dialogue. This work combines the distinct yet complementary worlds of the two artists, fusing raw materials with rich visual iconography.

Expert opinion

"Trespassers is a striking example of artistic collaboration. Haroshi and James Jean combine two distinct disciplines and artistic languages: the materiality of carved wood and the graphic finesse of illustrations.
