About the artwork
Almost unrealistic in its vivid colors, this photograph by Alain Delorme plunges us into the streets of Shanghai. Showing a man on his bicycle with a monumental pile of tires, the artist highlights the overabundance of objects as witnesses to the overproduction of China, a veritable factory of the world. By combining the codes of reportage photography with a poetic, humorous approach, Alain Delorme presents us with the new totems of this consumerist society: precarious columns echoing the city's buildings.
Expert opinion
Presented at Galerie Danysz in September 2010, this cheerfully colored photograph offers a glimpse of contemporary China, where unusual sculptures made from piles of "Made in China" products litter the streets of Shanghai.
About the artist
